The Challenge: One Barge Per Day

Moving potash efficiently between multiple modes of transportation requires a system that can keep product flowing. SCF Marine's existing loading process had become a bottleneck, limiting how quickly material could move through the facility and restricting barge handling to approximately one barge per day.

The operation needed a faster, more flexible way to handle potash while supporting truck, rail, and barge loading.

The Solution: Portability

To improve the flow of material, SCF Marine added a portable Superior conveyor system featuring a Superior® Feed Hopper, Razertail® Truck Unloader, and TeleStacker® Conveyor.

Potash is fed into the hopper and transferred onto the conveying system, which moves material toward storage and loading areas. The portability of the system gives operators greater flexibility to position equipment where it's needed, including the ability to serve two rail lines.

The Results: Double the Load

The new system has transformed the pace of loading operations. Barge throughput has doubled from one barge per day to two, while trucks can be loaded in approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds, and railcars in just 10-12 minutes.

The portable design also allows the operation to serve two rail lines, providing greater flexibility for moving product.

Even with those improvements, the system isn't being pushed to its full potential. Operators are intentionally running below full capacity to stay in step with crane operations, giving the operation additional conveying capacity as its loading demands allow.
