Precision and Performance: How Setramex Optimizes Crushing for the Tren Maya Railway

Location Veracruz, Mexico
Industry Aggregates: Crushed Stone

The Challenge

Setramex needed to create a new crushing plant to supply material for the construction of the six-year Tren Maya railway project.

The production of ballast will serve as a base for the tracks so the product had to meet the right specifications for cubic materials. Tests were initially carried out with various cone crushers, which did not meet the desired specifications.

The Solution

Tests were conducted with Superior's 43”x 55” Sentry Horizontal Shaft Impactor (HSI), which met the requested cubicity specifications, despite being an abrasive material.

To achieve the production capacity required by Setramex, it was necessary to design a plant with three crushing stages including a P250 primary plant, two Anthem® Inclined Screen plants, and a FIMSA S250H secondary plant, which included Superior's Sentry Horizontal Shaft Impactor (HSI).

The Results

With the features offered by Superior's Sentry Horizontal Shaft Impactor (HSI), smooth operation of the plant, and complying with quality standards, the plant is able to meet the production standards of 300 mtph (330 stph) of 69.85 mm (2 3/4") to 19.05 mm (3/4") ballast.
