Gila River Sand & Gravel Builds The Largest Wash Plant in the Southwest U.S.
The Challenge
Gila River Sand & Gravel came to Kimball Equipment and Superior Industries looking to build a high-capacity wash plant, but they didn't have the extra people or time to manage every piece of it themselves.
With that, the project came with some real constraints:
- Limited footprint (35 acres) to fit the operation
- High water demand
- Coordination of multiple systems without delays
Trying to piece that together with multiple vendors would have ultimately slowed down production.
Equipment- Spirit® Sand Plant
- Guardian® Screen
- Radial Stacking Conveyors
- Fine Material Washer
The Solution
Instead of managing multiple suppliers, Gila River Sand & Gravel partnered with Kimball Equipment and Superior to handle the plant as a complete system, from design through start-up.
From the beginning, it was a collaborative process. Gila River had a clear vision, and Superior brought multiple 3D layouts and ideas to the table. The final design came from both.
The finished plant includes:
- A 340-foot tunnel feed system with four feeders
- Split processing for mortar sand and concrete sand
- Blade mills, Guardian® Horizontal Screens, and a Spirit® Sand Plant
- A 75-foot thickener with a polymer system for water recovery
Everything ties together, so material moves from feed to stockpile without extra handling or unnecessary choke points.
The Results
Once construction started, the project fell into place without stalling. With clear communication between Gila River, Kimball Equipment, and Superior, everything stayed on track and came together seamlessly.
Today, Gila River Sand & Gravel is running:
- The largest wash plant in the Southwest U.S.
- A system that recovers up to 98% of its water.
- A high-production plant.
- A setup that runs efficiently without constant adjustment.
The end result is a beautiful wash plant that does exactly what it was built to do. Produce aggregate, conserve water, and run without wasting time, space, or resources.
