Why Drop Height and Material Size Matter
Drop height tolerance increases as material size decreases because smaller particles create less concentrated impact force on the belt. Large, heavy chunks of material exert more localized stress, requiring load zone components with greater surface support and impact absorption capacity.
Belt sag between idlers can lead to spillage, material entrapment, and premature wear on both the belt and supporting structures. Components such as impact beds and cradles distribute the impact force across a wider area, stabilizing the belt and improving sealing performance.
By pairing the correct component with the right material size and drop height, operators can reduce belt damage, minimize downtime, and extend conveyor life, all while ensuring efficient material containment at the load zone.
