Challenge: Reduce Belt Damage Caused by Bent Wings
Even with access to the heaviest-duty wing pulleys the plant supervisor at Northwest Sand and Gravel couldn’t escape the inevitable. Using traditional wing pulleys, rocks were making themselves at home between the wings. The unwelcome material would populate and eventually cause the wings to bend and fold over.

“Often the wings’ edges would become sharp, which would catch a belt splicing or contribute to the fast wear of the belt,” said Tony Traveller.

Solution: Chevron Wing Pulley
After installing their new Chevron wing pulleys, the above-mentioned problems have been eliminating. No more bent wings, no more watchful eyes and Northwest Sand and Gravel is realizing extra time in the day they can now dedicate towards other areas in the quarry.

“There is nothing to compare to their heavy-duty design, and we can run them 24 hours a day for five or six days a week with absolutely no problems,” Traveller said.

He installed his first Chevron wing pulley on a 150-foot radial stacker, followed by two more on belts running from a primary impactor, and another two on discharge belts from his screening circuit.

“They are withstanding the test of time and I feel that any extra cost is overshadowed by the elimination of downtime, and their extremely long wear life,” he said.
