Tripper Conveyor Systems

Wissota Sand and Gravel

Industry
Sand and Gravel

Products
30″ x 580′ Tripper Conveyor System

Location
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Project Objectives
- Reduce safety issues related to round-the-clock loader operation
- Prevent material loss
- Eliminate labor and maintenance costs associated with extensive loader use

Challenge
The Milwaukee-based site yields 1.2 million tons of material and load out trucks 52 weeks a year. The major challenge is a limited footprint, only 800′ x 200′ for up to 200,000 tons of material storage.

Solution
A 580’ tripper conveyor with a remote controlled tripper car was installed on 57 foot tall concrete pillars. The operation discharges material from one side of the conveyor to the other. It has the ability to run unattended and stockpiles at 450 tons per hour – eliminating man hours, machine hours and high fuel consumption.

Quote
“Think about it,” said pit supervisor Dennis Smniok. “You’re in a loader and suddenly you’re up to 60-feet and maneuvering on an inclined ramp. If you’re stockpiling 24-hours a day, you have an individual doing that in the dark. It just became a huge safety issue.”
