Urathon® Return Rolls
Project Objectives
- Reduce return roll material buildup
- Eliminate belt damage
- Reduce maintenance and operating costs
Challenge
Before introducing Urathon return rolls into their operations, Phoenix-based Salt River Materials Group (SRMG) struggled maintaining steel return rolls. Clay stuck to them like magnets, causing buildup that often doubled the size of the original rolls. Some of the idlers got so heavy they stopped rolling and eventually damaged the belt and other conveyor components.
Solution
Since installing Urathon return rolls on their belt’s return side, SRMG’s problem with build up and premature component damage has been solved. The self-cleaning, 90-durometer urethane discs are shedding material and preventing buildup between the roll and belt. The result is a component that extends the life of the entire conveying system while reducing maintenance and operating costs.
Quote
“These rolls save me time, money and eliminate all the downtime we used to have in changeouts,” said plant manager Gary Mackey. “There is no reason to look any further.”
