Project Objectives
- Maximize up-time at 24/7 operation
- Increase efficiency and reduce maintenance
- Increase barge loading capacities
Challenge
It’s a belt that takes a pounding. The ore that constantly beats down is minus-4 1/2-inch material loaded a foot deep. Requiring production of almost 20,000 tons a day, closing down the crushing circuit to change out rolls and idlers can put a major strain on that goal.
Solution
Prior to the installation of the Superior CEMA E idlers, Barrick’s Elko mine would have to shut down the crushing circuit at least once a week (after stockpiling enough material) just to change out rolls or entire idlers on the heavy duty conveyor. Since the change, their downtime has been eliminated and Barrick is getting the same desired wear life from the CEME E idler on the heavy duty conveyor as they would get from a CEMA D idler on his smaller systems.
