09/03/10: New Weld Training Center Raises Bar in Employee Skills

For Immediate Release

Morris, MN – Superior Industries, a leading manufacturer of conveyor systems and components, recently established its own in-house, state-of-the-art welding training center which trains both current and new employees in the latest welding technologies. Its on-campus facility houses a classroom, library, and lab with eight welding and two grinding booths. To meet a growing demand for welders, employees have a unique opportunity to raise skill and compensation levels with a comprehensive focus on welding techniques such as gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, flux cored arc, shielded metal arc, and shielded metal arc welding on pipe, using E6010 5P and E7018 electrodes. In addition, students learn numerous weld testing methods, such as guided bend, Charpy V-Notch impact, macro-etch, and radiographic and ultra sonic tests. Upon completion of the intensive program, participants have the opportunity to earn certifications from the American Society of Mechanical Engineering and the American Welding Society.

“Through a commitment to in-house training, our goal is raising the bar in weld capabilities by mastering new technologies. The result is a meeting our need for well-trained and certified welders as expansion occurs; and providing the highest quality products via a skilled workforce,” says Dave Dybdal, a welding instructor/consultant for Superior Industries, and a member of the American Welding Society (AWS).

Thirty percent of the training is in the classroom, while 70-percent is in the welding lab. Currently 80-percent of Superior’s welders have completed the program, with the goal of achieving 100-percent of the welding workforce.
